My Recommended Resources

Over the years I have volunteered, worked with, and learned about various organizations and individuals that I would recommend – from the mental health world, to politics, to writing, and beyond. Check some of them out below.

Mental Health

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is a voluntary health organization that gives those affected by suicide a nationwide community empowered by research, education and advocacy to take action against this leading cause of death. You can get involved on a local, regional, or national level through volunteering, advocacy, and more.

The Trevor Project is the leading suicide prevention and crisis intervention nonprofit organization for LGBTQ+ young people. They provide information & support to LGBTQ+ young people 24/7, all year round. People in the LGBTQ+ community are a greater risk for suicide – if you or someone you needs help – call.

For help, call 1-866-488-7386.

NAMI is the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.

I’ve personally benefited from their family support groups and enourage you to check out your local chapter if you need support.

Action by action, day by day, group by group, Indivisibles are remaking our democracy.

Brought together by a practical guide to resist the Trump agenda, Indivisible is a movement of thousands of group leaders and more than a million members taking regular, iterative, and increasingly complex actions to resist the GOPs agenda, elect local champions, and fight for progressive policies.

They make calls. They show up. They speak with their neighbors. They organize. And through that work, they’ve built hundreds of mini-movements in support of their local values. And now, after practice, training, and repetition, they’ve built lasting power on their home turf and a massive, collective political muscle ready to be exercised each and every day in every corner of the country.

Letters From An American

Heather Cox Richardson is a professor of American history. Her daily newsletter, Letters From An American, is a chronicle of today’s political landscape. She is a political historian who uses facts and history to put the news in context with America’s Constitution, and laws, and the economy, and social customs. She explores what it means, and what it has meant, to be an American.
